The Points of Fern Care

While ferns are an amazing plant, they are not so amazing that they can take care of themselves in the limited environment of a human home. If you truly love your fern, you need to be a little versed in the art of fern care. And, it goes without saying, in addition to being versed in fern care, one must put into practice that knowledge!
While a fern, like any plant, needs sunlight to survive, excessive exposure to sunlight can kill a fern. Keep it out of the direct line of the burning rays of the sun, but not in an area that is totally dark; partial shade is optimal.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, other than the burning rays of the sun, ferns have an aversion to cold weather. Well, aversion is too light of a word. Cold weather will kill the plant particularly if the cold causes the fronds of the fern to freeze. When that happens, it’s all she wrote for the fern. Don’t let the elements kill the fern.
And the soil that a fern lives in must always be kept somewhat moist. Not muddy or runny, but moist. Always be sure to water the plant everyday so that this moistness to the soil is maintained.
Now, this is just a general guide to fern care. Different types of ferns have their own special unique needs. When purchasing a fern, one should be sure to learn what specifics needs the various ferns will require to maintain their health. It would be very unfortunate that a beautiful plant died because of missing just one minor point. And, sometimes, one minor point is all that differentiates between a long life and a short life for the fern.
Fern care requires a few major points and individual species of ferns may require individual needs. If one takes the various points into consideration, proper fern care will be maintained.
